What Acute Care Is Not

To ensure safe and appropriate care, acute visits are not intended for:

  • Compehensive preventive or wellness care

  • Management of multiple chronic conditions

  • New chest pain, shortness of breath, or neurological symptoms

  • Severe pain, injury, or emergencies

Patients experiencing severe or life-threatening symptoms should seek emergency care immediately.

When clinically appropriate, treatment recommendations, prescriptions, or testing guidance are provided.

  • Acute and same-day visits are designed for non-emergent concerns. If you are experiencing symptoms such as chest pain, shortness of breath, sudden weakness, confusion, severe abdominal pain, uncontrolled bleeding, or any other symptoms that feel severe or concerning, you should seek care at an urgent care center or emergency department immediately. If you believe your situation is life-threatening, call 911.

  • Medications may be prescribed when clinically appropriate and based on your symptoms, medical history, and current guidelines. Not all conditions require prescription treatment. For example, many viral illnesses improve with supportive care, and some concerns are best managed with over-the-counter options. When a prescription is not indicated, guidance on symptom management and next steps will be provided.

  • You will receive guidance on what symptoms to monitor and when to seek additional care. If symptoms worsen, do not improve, or become concerning, in-person evaluation or emergency care may be recommended.

  • Acute visits are intended for new or short-term concerns. Ongoing or recurring issues are best addressed through follow-up visits, Annual Visits and Wellness Exams, or other appropriate care services to support continuity of care.

  • Work or school excuse notes may be provided when clinically appropriate and based on the timing of your visit. Notes are issued for the date of your appointment and cannot be backdated for symptoms or events that occurred before you were evaluated.
